After a long career working as a sales executive in radio, press and television, Tanya Jones stepped away to focus on her family. A few years later, she was itching to return. A serendipitous coffee with her ex-colleague Robyn Duscher cemented her plans.
“I was at a stage of wondering what I was going to do next,” recalls Tanya. “I was chatting with Robyn about potentially returning to media and she asked if I was interested in starting an agency.”
That conversation was the start of Rest Media, a boutique media buying agency that Tanya and Robyn founded together. As a startup agency, they needed the right partners on their side. Finding the right partner
What Tanya and Robyn had when they started Rest Media was a wealth of practical experience about media and the effects it could have on increasing profitability. What they didn’t have was the backend skills of accounting and business management.
“As an ex Station Manager, Robyn had dealt with all the agencies and their bookings,” explains Tanya. “She was familiar with Media Placement Services and was confident with what they offered so we reached out to MPS Director Michael Mitchell to understand the business model.”

If Rest Media didn’t partner with Media Placement Services, their business would look very different to how it does today. They would have greater levels of complexity in their business and carry greater risk.
“The alternative is that we’d have to manage complex application processes each time we wanted to buy media for our clients,” explains Tanya. “Instead, we work through the Media Placement Services booking platform. Each time we take on a new client, we email the MPS team and they handle the necessary credit applications with the client to set up the account. It’s all so simple and user friendly.”
From there, MPS manages the entire billing process, including chasing any overdue invoices, a huge weight off Tanya’s shoulders.
“We don’t need to worry about the insurance we would need if we booked media directly,” she says. “MPS invoice our clients, pay the media and then they pay us. This is really huge because it means that when we contact our clients, we’re always adding value to their business and not following up unpaid invoices.”
The result is a manageable business without the risk and complexity they would otherwise face. This is something that Tanya says has allowed them to grow to the size they have without needing to take on more employees… and greater costs.

Recently, Tanya supported a client with a campaign across TV, radio and broadcast video on demand. With such a large campaign, the client would usually expect multiple invoices from each form of media. With MPS, they only receive one.
“The MPS invoices are really self-explanatory and make life so much easier for our clients,” she explains. “The invoice is segmented to show the different elements of the campaign and includes all of the campaign details and charges. It’s just so seamless.”
